Delph Wynd - Community Web Site

Aerial view of Delph Wynd area

This resource will (hopefully) be developed by the residents from the Delph Wynd area of Tullibody, Clackmannanshire. It's open to anyone, but will be most relevant to current residents. Simply set up an account to begin your participation. Through its registered membership it's hoped that people contribute and publish stories and information that's of interest to the residents of Delph Wynd.

An article from the BBC - The neighbours who never speak - was what triggered the idea for this; it basically points out that, without getting all misty-eyed and nostalgic, we just don't interact as a community in the way that previous generations did. Our experiment then is to see if we can possibly recapture some of that 'community interaction', on a local level and away from all that Bebo - FaceBook - MySpace - Twitter type shenanigans that goes on elsewhere on the internet.

We're aiming for more a gentle 'C' class single track road with passing places (and nice views) rather than the 6 lane Super Highway the internet's seen as.

Give us a wee wave as you go past :H

Any requests for features that you'd like to see added to the site can be sent to - brian@delphwynd.net, posted in the forums, or you can use the Contact Form on site here.

Broadband speed

We are officially in a broadband slowspot. see http://www.broadband-notspot.org.uk/share/7d826df7a565f8da29354b573721cd... for the total areas.

RE: Broadband Speed

No surprise there then....

Scary thing is, having been on this exchange since it was ADSL enabled in 2002, nothing's improved. Whilst online services (music streaming, iPlayer, iTunes, downloads, Sky Anytime+) and software manufacturers assume we all have the capability to download the ever increasing amount of data thrown at us (Apple's last system update comes in at 3.5GB for example) we're not even near the government's optimistic target of 2Mb per household (which BT claim around 93% of households can receive). Add to that the fact that most households now have multiple devices fighting for that bandwidth and we're screwed. The UK as a whole (hole?) is falling way behind other countries - moving to South Korea is our best bet I think.

Just out of interest, is anyone using Sky Anytime+ around here? I've signed up for it but not set it up... might not bother if it's going to take most of the night to download a movie.

EDIT:

Speed Test - August 2011 - Lower than 86% of the UK
