We used to live in Alloa and when we moved to Tullibody 4 years ago, my children (four of them) continued to attend Alloa academy simply because they had been there all their academic lives. They walk across Braehead Golf course or if I have time, I give them a lift or partway lift before I go to work.
Now that the new school is twice as far away as the current one, my children will have difficulty getting there. I won't be able to spare time before work to drive them twice as far and get snarled up in the trafffic coming from that direction. It is also a very long walk! and I would not be happy for them (son and daughter) to walk all that distance in the soon to come dark mornings and evenings and poor weather.
The councils reply is - we are outside the schools catchment area and they can do nothing to help us with transport. Both of the children have only a few more years to go at Alloa Academy and to expect them to be uprooted at this late stage to attend unfamiliar Lornshill and lose all their classmates, teachers etc. is very unreasonable and unfair.
M-Line buses propose to provide a service from Cambus, thru Tullibody and on to the new school, this is great but the catch is it will cost £9 each per student per week. That means that I will have to find another £18 a week on top of school dinner money. Not cheap by any means. The council has no plans to subsidise the bus fares either.
Since the council is the one responsible for moving the school further away from my children, I think it is very unfair that we pay the full price for their actions.
The council tax on this estate is not what you would call reasonable either!
Surely someone could come up with a mutually satisfactory transport arrangement that wouldn't cost so much. I have been in contact with the council and have also sent a letter to our local councillor. I will let you know the results.
Does anyone have similar problems to ours in respect of getting to the new school?
